Recipes for Children Projects

Play Dough:
2 Cups flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 Tblsp. alum
2 Cups water
1 Cup salt
1Tblsp. salad oil
Food coloring
Place all ingredients in a saucepan. Stir constantly over low heat until mixture thickens into dough consistency. Remove from heat and let cool until it can be handled. Knead until smooth. Store in tight container or plastic bag. This recipe has been known to still be good after 6 months.

Goop:
1/2 box of cornstarch
1 Cup water, plus more if needed for consistency
Food coloring
Mix ingredients. Makes gooey, squishy stuff similar to Gak.

Salt Dough:
2 Cups flour
1 Cup salt
Enough water to make a good dough consistency
Mix all ingredients. Shape into desired items. Air dry for a couple of days, or cook slowly in an oven at 325 degrees.

Wood Dough:
1 Cup sifted sawdust
1/2 Cup flour
1 Tblsp. liquid starch
1 Cup water
Food coloring
Stir well until it is a good dough consistency. Form into shapes using cookie cutters or molds. Air dry.

Bubbles:
1/2 gallon distilled water
1 cup 'ultra' liquid dish soap- 1 1/2 cup regular liquid dish soap
1 Tblsp. glycerin
Mix well. Pour into shallow pan. Knot a string together at the ends to form a circle. Let soak in pan, then lift up and blow!

Glass Paint:
1/4 cup white glue
Food coloring
Blend well. Clean glass with glass cleaner. Paint and let dry. Make a window cling by painting a thick layer onto a transparency. Let dry and peel off. Place on window.

Tub Paint:
1 Tblsp cornstarch
1/3 cup clear dish detergent
3-4 drops food coloring
Mix well and use in tub. This mixture shouldn't stain the wall, but may or may not stain the grout, so keep paints in the tub, just in case.
