Mini Windsock
This cute windsock will really brighten up a porch, stoop, or
wherever you choose to hang it. The swivel will help it to blow
freely in whatever direction the wind blows. If you choose to
leave to sock outside overnight or in inclement weather, you
might want to consider weatherproof ribbon for the streamers.
Materials:
- Plastic
frozen juice concentrate container
- Foam
sheets of various colors
- Fishing
swivel
- Ribbon
- Cording (like
what the children use for bead key chains)
- Hot glue
- Hole
punch
- Craft
knife
- Utility
knife
Procedure:
- With the utility knife, cut the bottom off of the frozen
juice container.
- Cut one of the sheets of foam to fit around the juice
container, overlapping about one inch on the side. Place
the foam over the container and punch holes through all
layers along what will be the top of the sock. (If it is
too hard to do it all at once, try punching the foam
first, then marking the container and punching holes at
the marks.)
- Cut a length of cording and tie to the hole that goes
through the two foam layers and the plastic. Whip stitch
the foam to the container through the remaining holes.
- Leaving the cord where it is, use a craft knife to make
slits through the foam and container, down the seam where
the foam overlaps. Take the remaining cord from step #2
and stitch the 2 layers of foam to the container. Tie off
the end.
- Punch holes along the bottom of the sock, spacing them as
desired. Cut the ribbon to the length that you wish. Knot
one end of each ribbon and thread through the holes you
just punched.
- Decorate the sock with butterflies, ladybugs, bees,
flowers, or whatever pleases you, gluing it on with the
hot glue.
- Cut two lengths of cording and thread through the fishing
swivel. Knot the cords just under the swivel halfway
along their length to prevent the windsock from shifting
in the wind. Tie the ends of the cords to (four) opposite
holes at the top of the sock.
Hang and enjoy!
