Scarecrow Shelf-Sitter

This scarecrow will be a wonderful addition to any of your fall decorations, especially the 3-D Cornstalks that your children might have made. :o)

Materials:

Procedure:

  1. Paint face on bead. If you don’t have a bead that large, you can also insert a toothpick into a 1 ½”foam ball and coat the ball with plaster (see picture.). It will be more fragile, but will look just fine.
  2. Add a basecoat to the bead with a flesh-colored paint. Add facial features. Paint overalls, shirt, arms and hands on the clay pot.
  3. When dry, glue the head to the body.
  4. Spray the clay pot and head with the spray sealer.
  5. When dry, add a bow of raffia or a neckerchief (figure 1) around the neck.

  6. Glue on raffia or moss for hair
  7. Glue on hat.
  8. Cut two 6” long strips out of the felt, about 1” wide at the top, tapering to a point. Insert the point into a bead and glue. Glue short pieces of raffia to the inside of the bead. *** If you don’t have beads for the feet, you can make your own feet out of craft foam or felt. Glue the legs to the inside front of the pot.
