Business
Card Holder (or Trinket Box)
Here is
something that almost any Dad can use: a box to hold business
cards that he can place on his desk, or to hold the odds and ends
that he might empty out of his pocket after the day's work is
done.
Materials:
- Popsicle
sticks
- Tacky
glue
- Acrylic
Paint
- Spray
sealer
- Felt
- Large
wooden bead or knob
- Embellishments
Procedure:
- Lay 2
Popsicle sticks on table parallel to each other with
about 4" space in-between. Coat with glue. Place 11
Popsicle sticks on top of these 2 (which serve as bracers).
You should now have a square shape which will serve as a
base for this project.
- Repeat
step #1 for the lid.
- Glue
the large wooden bead or knob to the center of the lid (make
sure the bracers are underneath!) Set aside.
- Taking
the base, start gluing popsicle sticks to it in a log
cabin-style. Build up the sides as tall as desired.
- Paint
box and lid. Spray with sealer when dry.
- Using
a scrap sheet of paper, make a pattern for the inside
liner of the box. Place the box over the paper and trace
out the bottom. Cut off the corners of the paper towards
the square you have drawn to form a cross (see figure
below). Cut off more until the square fits into the
bottom of the box and the sides of the cross fit the
sides of the box. Trace onto felt and glue to inside of
box.

- Embellish
lid with old keys, fishing lures, or miniatures that deal
with Dad's likes or hobbies.
