Refrigerator Critter
Here is a fun project that my students really enjoyed. The
directions are for people, but can easily be adapted for animals,
bugs, or imaginary creatures. The main thing is that your child
has fun with this craft.
Materials:
- Large craft stick (tongue depressor)
- Yarn
- Glue
- Hot glue gun
- Magnet strip
- Markers
- Sequins, confetti, buttons, punched holes from
construction paper or craft foam, etc.
- Chenille stem
- Movable eyes
Procedure:
- Stick the magnetic strip to the back of the large craft
stick. If I dont have any magnetic strips on hand,
I like to cut an advertising magnet to fit and attach
with double-stick tape.
- Cut the chenille stem in half and hot glue on for the
arms and legs. This is done so the child will not get
frustrated with the legs and arms constantly coming off.
- Now, let the child decorate the stick as desired. They
can color the stick with the markers and then add
sequins, etc. to embellish the piece; glue on yarn for
hair and add movable eyes. Lastly, they can form the legs.
The finished product will be one of those treasures that could
remain on the refrigerator or work filing cabinet for years to
come.
