Roly-Poly Snowman
This wonderful snowman is very easy for any child to make.
These are the directions for the basic snowman, as pictured. If,
however, your child desires to add a beard, vest, etc. it will
only add to the individuality and attractiveness of the snowman.
Materials:
- White silk ball ornament
- 1 1/2" Styrofoam ball
- Scrap material 1"x8"
- 4 cotton balls
- Black construction paper
- Toothpick
- White yarn
- Orange chenille (pipe cleaner) cut to 1"
- Green or red chenille
- 2 small glitter pom-poms
- Movable eyes
- Hole punch
- Glue
- Decorative ribbon
Procedure:
- For the head and body: Take the toothpick, add a drop of
glue to each end, and poke it halfway into the top of the
silk ornament. Then poke the 1 1/2" Styrofoam ball
on the protruding part of the toothpick. The toothpick
will now secure the foam balls together.
NOTE: The hanger that is pre-attached to the silk
ornament should be positioned just behind the head.
- Glue the cotton balls on for arms and legs.
- Glue on the movable eyes.
- Use the hole punch to create 'coal' out of the black
construction paper for mouth and buttons. Glue to snowman.
- Tie the material scrap around the neck for the scarf.
- Taking the 1" long orange chenille stem, put a drop
of glue on the end and poke it in the head for the nose.
- Cut the white yarn into small pieces and glue to head for
hair.
- For earmuffs: Measure and cut green or red chenille to
fit over the top of head for the band. Glue pom-poms over
each 'ear' for muffs.
- Add the ribbon through the pre-attached hanger and it is
ready for display!
