Spice Mixtures
I have a confession to make...I am
addicted....addicted to spice mixtures! I love experimenting with new ones
I find on the net as well in newspaper articles. I save the empty spice
bottles from Dollar Store purchases and label them not only with the name of the
mixture, but also the recipe. I can be so forgetful, so this way I have
the recipe right there when it is time to make more.
Here are a few spice mixtures I have found as well as my favorite way for using them:
Salt Substitute
*From the Florida Times-Union.
Good for flavoring just about everything, but especially good over home-made pot
pie.
5 tsp Onion Powder
1 Tblsp Garlic Powder
1 Tblsp Paprika
1 Tblsp Dry Mustard
1 tsp Thyme
1/2 tsp Pepper
1/2 tsp Celery Seed

Emeril's Essence
*From Emeril's Site.
Recipe has been halved to fit in the spice jar. This is GREAT on bow-tie
noodles. Boil 3 cups noodles and drain. In a heated skillet, pour 2
Tblsp oil and add 1 Tblsp of spice mixture. Cook spices for about 2
minutes, and then add cooked noodles. Toss until evenly coated and remove
from heat. Serve hot.
2 1/2 Tblsp Paprika
2 Tblsp Salt
2 Tblsp Garlic
1 Tblsp Pepper
1 Tblsp Onion Powder
1 Tblsp Cayenne
1 Tblsp Oregano
1 Tblsp Thyme

Good General-purpose spice. If you use with the noodle recipe above, use 2 Tblsp
of the spice mixture.
